36 From Childebert to Magnus the Curator.
Recognizing the distinguished worthiness of your esteemed
Highness, we considered it suitable to undertake this
correspondence which can be difficult due to long distances. By
your renowned and honourable authority we hold you in respect and
signify in the present state of affairs to have employed our agents
by the Catholic application of faith to greet the most serene and
devoted Emperor of the Roman state. If with a word entrusted to
him, you in benevolence could assist this meeting the welfare of
both peoples could be achieved. The Emperor agreeing, we may give
thanks together for peace.
SIMILI PROLOGO AD MEGANTEM CURATOREM.
Celsitudinis vestrae agnoscentes dignitatem meritis
inlustratam, oportunum duximus, distinare vel litterarum
conloquia, quorum per longa intervalla non adhibetur praesentia.
Idcirco gloriose magnitudini vestrae salutationis
iura honorifice persolventes, significamus, praesentium
legatarios nostros studio catholice caritatis ad tranquillissimum
principem Romane reipublicae devinctissime distinasse; quibus
benigne receptis, cum sibi verbo demandata
cum vestra magnificentia fideliter contulerint, illud pro
utilitate utrorumque gentium augusto suggerite, ut pacificis
partibus gratulemus pariter suae potestati vos consiliis
adherere.
